Eating Healthy Food in the Colder Months
Eating Healthy Food
Are you having a hard time eating two, huge, cold
salads everyday when the weather is freezing outside?
Is the thought of eating cold food suddenly unappealing?
As the weather gets colder, you will have to change
your eating habits along with the seasons. You
will still need your live food but there are other
ways to get that live food in as you enjoy your
warm meals too.
You might want to cut out citrus if you find you
are really cold. Citrus will lower your body
temperature just a bit. Try eating an apple or
small amounts of dried fruit in the morning instead
of citrus fruit or citrus juice.
If you don't want that salad before lunch and can't
wait to get to your hot soup, have a glass of fresh
greens and carrots about 30-45 minutes before your meal.
Not only will you get an immune boosting punch full of
living
foods, enzymes and vitamins and minerals, but
you will also curb your appetite and not overeat if
you have that green juice well before your meal. The
nutrients will get to your cells in a hurry and nourish
your body so won't be so hungry.
You can lightly steam some vegetables and put them
on top of your salad. Hypothyroids can steam all the
cruciferous vegetables first, then put them on the salad
and eat them this way with no problems. I do still
eat raw cruciferous vegetables a couple of times a week
and have had no problems. In my opinion it is okay to
do once in a while.
Don't stress if you just can't get the raw food in
as much. Take advantage of the wonderful root
vegetables and make some hot, soothing soup to go
with that salad. When it warm ups again, you will
enjoy eating two big salads again. On those
days when you can't seem to eat that salad, juice
your salad instead. And if you find you are
eating more cooked food than you should, be sure
to take some enzymes. Remember that having plenty
of enzymes in your body will help all your hormones
work properly. Neither vitamins, minerals, or
hormones can do any work without enzymes. The
best anti-aging advice I can give is to eat those live
foods and when you don't, take supplemental plant
enzymes.
If you are struggling with weight, you must eat plenty
of raw vegetables--eat more raw than cooked as often as
you can. Eating loads of meat won't do it. It might
work temporarily as the protein will cause a draining
of the fluids, but after that, the weight loss will
cease and you may even gain weight.
As long as you eat more vegetables than concentrated
foods, you will lose weight. Don't fall into
the trap of eating too much concentrated and dead food.
Load up your plate with salad and warm veggies first.
Eat
that, then eat some concentrated foods.
Have a big platter of cut veggies on the table for the
kids to eat. Have everyone get their fill of the LIVE
foods first, then have the soup or whatever else you
are serving. This is one rule we have stuck to for over
3 years and it keeps everyone on track and eating the
raw foods consistently.
