Healthy Eating For Your Family
So you have decided you are going to eat
healthy and
take nourishing your body seriously.
You are excited and want to share Living Well with your
immediate family. You want all of them to be as excited
about your new lifestyle as you are.
Then...you figure out how much support you will not get
from your family. You realize that they could care less
about health and wellness and take pride in eating junk
and laughing at you for trying to stick to a plan that
includes so many healthy "living" foods.
When you visit your not so immediate family, as soon
as they find out you are trying to make better choices,
they try to tempt you into eating the low quality foods
you used to call a regular meal.
This may be your experience as it has been mine on
occasion.
You have the best intentions--but all your family wants
to
eat is the packaged garbage. They don't want to eat
living
foods and are happy eating foods from a box.
What can you do? Are you alone in this journey with
the sole support being the other Living Well members
and that's it?
Since Living Well is a lifestyle change, it is important
to understand that it takes time to implement all the
new
principles into your life and your family's.
Serving burgers and fries for 10 years and then deciding
all of sudden that you want to serve an entirely raw
dinner
might not go over too big.
When getting your family involved remember how foreign
it will be for them to be eating living foods. It is a
shame that we don't eat many living foods in our
society,
but the fact remains.
Living foods really are delicious so getting your family
to at least TRY THEM should be the first goal.
Begin by serving one raw dish at dinner. Maybe just
having salad with your meal is a big step. If you are
used to salad, serve something raw other than a salad
to accompany the meat dish if you eat meat.
Make sure the first recipes you serve are good ones so
you will get rave reviews. Check the Living Well Cook
eBook for ideas.
For breakfast always offer fruit first. They may go
for the junk, but if you have the fruit ready to eat,
maybe cut up in a bowl, they will go for it. Fruit
is visually appealing and the colors are enticing.
I don't know how anyone can resist beautiful fruit
on a platter. Summer fruit is the best and it is
still available! Take advantage of the end of the
season and start serving those delicious fruits before
they are gone.
Throw some living foods in with your children's lunches.
Make sure to give much variety to keep their taste buds
curious.
Ask them which living foods they like and why. This
will give you an idea of what texture and flavors they
like in foods.
The best thing to do is just be CONSISTENT with setting
the living well example.
As time goes on, your family and others will take you
and your desire to live well seriously.
Getting to this point takes time, but you will get
there.
Of course the best and easiest way to get your family
to eat healthy is to train them to do it from day one.
Nurse for as long as possible and when you begin to
introduce foods, give your baby raw, organic, living
foods. Make the baby food yourself. It is simple
to do. Babies learn to love living foods early if
you give them the chance. Get them started early and
eating healthy is a breeze.
Whether you are just getting your family involved
in your quest for health and wellness, or you plan on
it in the future, my advice is to give it some time.
Being consistent with trying to live well is the key.
I will end this with a testimonial from a Living Well
member:
"I have to tell you I have been on the plan for two
months. I have children of my own, two girls ages 10
and 7. I have slowly adapted them into the plan. I
recently took them to the mall for shopping (it was
around noon) when I asked them what they wanted to
eat. I was expecting them to shout, 'McDonalds or
Burger King'. To my surprise my oldest girl was craving
a large salad with grilled chicken cut over it and my
7 year old wanted to have "just a fruit salad Mommy".
I felt really proud and it made me realize that if we
just stick to it, we can do anything. My children are
not over weight at all, but I feel that if they can
start eating healthy now it will stick with them the
rest of their lives. As Victoria said the fruit season
is great, so start there."
